We enjoy shopping at Standard Market in Westmont and have often eaten at Standard Market Grill prior to me being diagnosed. We would occasionally meet friends in the Cube (the wine bar) and order food from the grill. There were a lot of items I tried and liked them all, but one of my favorites was the Buddha Bowl. I got it with chicken, and it had a lot of veggies and the sauce had great flavor. After I was diagnosed we wanted to go back and I had googled them and found out that many things can be made gluten free and that the staff was knowledgeable about their GF options. So I went with high hopes.
When I ordered, the gentleman seemed to know what was GF and if he didn’t, he was willing to ask for me but he wasn’t overly helpful. I ordered the Buddha bowl (since it was my fav) and was told that everything is GF except the sauce. They didn’t have any sauce they could substitute or anything they could offer instead. So I got the bowl sans sauce. When it came it looked delicious. And it was OK. The meat, fresh veggies, and rice were cooked well but without the sauce the dish fell flat. I was very disappointed that there was no other sauce they could offer me or that the sauce couldn’t be modified. I would not get that dish again. It was too blah. However I’ve read good things about the GF pizza and many of the salads look to be GF or could be easily made GF. So I will definitely try again (and provide an update if I do!)
Standard Market Grill – Westmont
What I ordered: Buddha Bowl with Chicken (no sauce)
Designated GF options available: Somewhat– not designated GF but they are willing adjust.
Variety of GF offerings: 6/10 (offering something just sans sauce is not a good option, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt since it seems other items might be better)
Overall Taste: 6/10
