At a friend’s bachelorette party this summer they has someone come in and teach us how to make cocktails. It was very fun and made me want to try making some at home. I got a shaker set for Christmas so I started looking up some easy cocktails and found Southside gin cocktail. It may have been named for the south side of Chicago so I figured it was a good place to start. It was very easy to make, although I’m still learning to use the shaker… I spilled twice and broke a glass. So I guess I’ll need to keep practicing.
I saw recipes for both Lime and Lemon and we found we preferred the Lemon better. The venture into cocktails has aslo gotten me on a search at thrift stores for cool cocktail glasses!
- 1 oz Lemon juice
- ¾ oz Simple Syrup
- 3-5 Mint leaves
- 2 oz Gin
- Place 3-4 mint leaves in cocktail shaker. Add lemon juice, simple syrup, and gin.
- Fill up shaker with ice. Close shaker and shake hard. Shaker will get cold... keep shaking! This will break up the mint and ice.
- Remove top from strainer section of shaker, or remove whole top and use the strainer, pour into cocktail glass. Garnish cocktail with 1 mint leaf (slap it between your hands to release flavor).
- *** Note - the large side of my jigger is 1 oz, but not all are the same
- *** To make simple syrup, bring 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to a boil and mix until dissovled. Let cool
