We were recently in Charleston for the High Water Music Festival and tried a lotof good food both inside and out of the festival. When the the festival ended the first night, we were feeling like some late night food and drinks. Low and behold there was a Mellow Mushroom within walking distance of our hotel. I have heard a lot of people talk about Mellow Mushroom being really good and having gluten free options, but hadn’t ever gotten a chance to try it. They had a whole page in the menu dedicated to gluten free pizza options (wish I had taken a picture of it). They even went into detail on how it was prepared and cooked to try to prevent any cross contamination.
Unfortunately they only had one size, so it was kind of a lot of food, but I was just so excited to try it that I didn’t care. I got my traditional pepperoni and black olives. The rest of our group shared one of their non gluten free pizzas and some salads. I have to admit, their pizza looked a lot better than mine when it came out, but it had almost too much crust. I’ve never been a crust girl and enjoy the thin crust pizza, so I was perfectly fine with my crust. The pizza was delicious and cooked well. The crust was not as cardboardy as some other gluten free pizzas I’ve tried, but it wasn’t may absolute favorite either. As I mentioned, it would be nice if you could order a small gluten free pizza since often times it is only one person at the table who needs gluten free options and it was way to much pizza for one person. I would definitely go back if I was ever in the area.
