A couple months ago we went to Florida to visit my sister and attend a wedding of a friend from college. We had a great time and I wanted to share the different restaurants and dining experiences we had. So the next few posts will be focused on Florida!
The wedding was in Key West which we were excited about but I was also a little nervous about the meals. I did my research leading up to the trip about what restaurants could accomodate me and found that many places in Key West are very accomodating to celiacs and gluten intolerance. But I still needed to look into the food at the wedding festivities. This was only my second time attending a wedding since being diagnosed.
My first step was to call the event location for the reception. It took me 4 different phone calls to finally get the information from the venue about the caterers, so I was a little apprehensive on how this would end up. Once I got the info I needed and talked with Great Events Catering, I felt much better. The catering coordinator was very aware of serving celiac guests and she said she would make sure to let the chef know they had a celiac guest and took my name. When we arrived at the reception they were serving hors d’oeuvres and the server went and checked with the chef right away regarding what I would be able to eat. Once we sat down, I mentioned to my server again, and they said they were aware and would make sure my meal was gluten free. When they brought it out they reconfirmed that it was gluten free. The meal was delightful – can’t really go wrong with fresh fish in Key West. But the ease of the evening regarding my food was even better.
