Bill likes Cuban food, so when I read online that El Meson de Pepe had good reviews (both regular and gluten free) we decided to try it for lunch while in Key West. It has a great location near Mallory square and we were able to sit outside (right next to some roosters that were hanging about). I was a little nervous at first because the hostess wasn’t very sure about gluten free items, but our server was much more knowledgeable. She said her daughter had celiac disease and was able to eat there often. She was able to give me some suggestions and answered all of my questions. I had the Ropa Vieja with the yellow rice, black beans, and plantains. It was very good, but a lot of food. Bill really liked what he had as well. Bill also ordered a cuba libre (rum & coke) and it was quite strong!
